An overhaul in thinking amongst Argentinian winemakers occured in the 1990s as focused shifted from quantity to quality. Up until this time most of Argentina's wine was considered too poor for export, but the subsequent quality advancements have made Argentinian wine recognised and appreciated worldwide. They have their own distinct style, but with many influences, as producers from many countries have had a vested interest in Argentina, most notably the French, Italians and Spanish. Sample their take on the international grape varieties, but don't forget to explore the local favourites, such as Malbec, Torrontes and the emerging Bonarda grape.
