When someone mentions Austrian wine, the "Antifreeze Scandal" of 1985 often springs to mind. But while this incident all but destroyed the Austrian wine industry, over the long-term it has done more benefit than harm, as Austrian producers were forced to produce the best quality wines they could as they attempted to repair their shattered reputation. Today Austria allows us to experience some impressive (and great value) wines, particularly their elegant Rieslings and Gruner Veltliners, and the unique Zweigelts.
