Story: It may be a second wine, but the Carrudes de Lafite still ranks amongst the finest wines in the world. Château Lafite Rothschild employs such a ruthless selection process for its Grand Vin that the quality of the fruit that goes into this wine is always incredibly high. The wine beautifully expresses the Pauillac region, and is made with a higher proportion of Merlot than the Grand Vin, with the intention that it can be enjoyed sooner after release.
Producer: Domaine Barons de Rothschild
Area: Pauillac, Medoc
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
Alcohol: 13%
Ageing: 18 to 20 month in 100% new barrels
Tasting: Well rounded and seductive with perfumed red berry and cherry fruits. The tannins have become supple and there is plenty of fruit on the palate, backed up by a lick of vanilla. Powerful yet well-balanced, and could be happily enjoyed now.
Food Pairing: Slow cooked shin of beef**
