Story: Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay, founded over two centuries ago in 1779. If you ask anyone at Bowmore, they will probably claim they are the oldest in all of Scotland too! The distillery has stood on the shores of Loch Indaal for all those years, buffeted by the salty Atlantic winds which contribute to Bowmore’s distinctive briny note. Tradition is vitally important to this distillery as they are one of only a few distilleries that still produces their own hand-turned floor-malted barley, a process that has been in place for well over 200 years.
Producer: Bowmore Distillery
Area: Islay, Scotland
Tasting Notes: A wonderfully complex dram that is long and well-balanced. The aromas are of creamy caramel, chocolate, plums and signature Bowmore smoke, while the sherry cask notes stand out on the rich, warming palate.
